Passing the AZ-900

The Azure Fundamentals exam, or AZ-900, is Microsoft’s introductory certification into the world of the Azure cloud platform. Preparing for it gives one an overview of several key cloud computing concepts and general services, along with specifics that make Azure unique from its competitors such as AWS or GCP. A few topics covered include:

  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS)
  • Public, Private, Hybrid Cloud
  • Virtual Machines, Azure App Services, Azure
  • Container Instances (ACI), Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Virtual Networks, VPN Gateway, Virtual Network peering, and ExpressRoute
  • Container (Blob) Storage, Disk Storage, File Storage,
  • Cosmos DB, Azure SQL Database, Azure Database for MySQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, and Azure SQL Managed Instance

The complete list of topics can be found in the syllabus

When I first saw this list, I was pretty overwhelmed and began YouTubing a million different review videos to calm my nerves, but as most of them explained and as I noticed during my studying, the types of questions asked are pretty simple conceptually. I found that the official learning path covered everything needed to pass and if you watch a cram video like this and find that everything seems relatively familiar, it’s a good sign that you’ll be ready to breeze through the exam.

Generally, the exam costs $99 USD, but if you attend a set of Microsoft’s virtual training day sessions, you can obtain an exam voucher to waive the costs.

Good Luck!
